Manuscript Guidelines
General Guidelines
ARexpeditions seeks interesting, thought provoking and timely articles of 5,000 – 10,000 words that focus on action research in educational settings. Material must be original, scientifically accurate, and in good form editorially. The manuscript should be in English and should be informative, summarizing the basic facts and conclusions, and maintaining a coherence and unity of thought. Tutorial or how-to-do-it articles should preferably include a section on evaluation. Controversial topics should be treated in a factually sound and reasonably unbiased manner.
Article Preview
Manuscripts sent to the Editor for review are accepted on a voluntary basis from authors. Before submitting an article, please review the following suggestions. Original manuscripts received in correct form serve to expedite the processing and prompt reviewing for early publication. Spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, and the mechanical elements of arrangements, spacing, length, and consistency of usage in form and descriptions should be studied before submission.
Pre-publication
No manuscript will be considered which has already been published or is being considered by another journal. Authors should include a statement with their e-mail that the manuscript nor any of its part has not been published and is not under consideration elsewhere.
Publication Guidelines
Prospective authors should follow the guidelines set forth in the APA Manual of Style, 5th edition (American Psychological Association) before submitting a manuscript for consideration. The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th edition is available from APA Order Department, P.O. Box 2710, Hyattsville, MD 20784, USA; or from the website: http://www.apa.org/books.ordering.html).
Authors should be particularly careful to properly cite references, including author names; volume, issue and page numbers; and publication locations. Manuscripts, excluding the title page, abstract, biographical information, and references, should not exceed 10,000 words. The abstract should not exceed 300 words. The authors’ names and affiliations should not appear on page headings. All identifying information, including a phone number and E-mail address, should be provided in an accompanying cover letter. All copyright constraints should be noted in the letter. The authors are responsible for obtaining copyright permissions for previously published material.
Electronic submissions are preferred. These can be emailed as attachments or mailed on disc or CD. Documents in any standard word processing program are acceptable; however, it is preferable that they be saved in MSWord or a more generic format (such as Rich Text Format). Zipped archives containing all files are especially preferred.
Tables and Figures:
Authors are encouraged to illustrate their manuscripts with color photographs, black and white (or grayscale) diagrams, tables, and maps. These should be numbered and titled and should be cited in the text. For initial manuscript submission, simple tables and figures can be embedded in the text of the document. Larger or more complicated tables and figures should be included at the end of the document or in separate documents, with indicators in the text of their approximate location. For submission, figures should be in generic formats (such as tiffs, gifs, jpgs, bitmats).
Authors should adhere to the following specific guidelines for tables and figures:
- Electronically submitted graphic files must be saved as graphic files (GIF or JPG). Word tables are preferred.
- Do not allow tables or figures to exceed 35 picas (5 in) in width or 51 picas (8 in) in length.
- Use Times New Roman Font on all graphics.
- Double-space all tables for easy editing. Number all tables in the order that they are mentioned in the text. Make sure that all tables are mentioned in text.
- Define all measurement units and abbreviations in table notes.
- Graphics or photographs are considered figures and should not be labeled as tables.
- Do not print a table in a visible cellular format. Avoid vertical and horizontal rules within the body of the table.
All figures and complicated tables will be returned to the author for all minor adjustments before manuscript publication.
Abstract, Keywords, Author Biographies:
Abstracts should be between 200 and 300 words. A list of five key words that best describe the manuscript should also be included. The first page should list the title of the paper, the name, position, and mailing address of each author plus a biographical sketch of about 50 words. Information which identifies the authors should not appear in any other area of the paper. Articles or reviews must be submitted in English.
Punctuation and Spelling:
The following conventions govern the use of multiple punctuation:
- Commas and periods are always placed within the quotation marks, except when single quotation marks are used to set off special terms.
- Semicolons and colons are placed outside the quotation marks.
- Question marks, exclamation points, and dashes are placed inside the quotation marks when they apply to the quotation only. They are placed outside the quotation marks when they apply to the entire statement.
- When parentheses or brackets are used to enclose an independent sentence, the period belongs inside. If the enclosed matter is part of an including sentence, the period should be placed outside the parentheses or brackets.
Spelling will conform to the Oxford Dictionary.
Citations
Cite references in text by author and date; for example, Hill (1969), (Wong et al. 1983) or (Singh and Starr 1990: 314), depending upon sentence construction. Order citations in the text from oldest to newest and then alphabetically; for example, (Hill 1969, Wong et al. 1983, 1992, Couteau 1990, 2000). At the end of the article, under the title References, list the citations in alphabetical order following the APA. References should be kept to a minimum rather than maximum. In most cases, for example, 10-15 references should be adequate.
Footnotes
Footnotes may be used sparingly for clarification of textual material and should be numbered consecutively.
Simultaneous Submission
It is understood that papers submitted to ARexpeditions have not been previously published nor simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere. Submissions substantially similar to previously published papers are not acceptable for publication. However, papers based on learned society or a professional conference presentation will be considered for publication.
Copyrighted Material
It is the author’s responsibility to obtain permission to reprint any previously published material, including both text and illustrations, from the copyright holder.
Human Subjects
It is the author’s exclusive responsibility to obtain all permissions for the inclusion of subjects in the study and the publication of any information related to individuals and/or organizations who participate in the study.
